2023 SATN Social

October 21, 2023 - 8am

Rainout Date: November 11th

What Is It

This is a social ride around South Austin Trail Network (SATN), open to everyone, with no registration, entry fee or donation required… this is just for fun! You can read about last year’s event here.

There are Four routes totaling 67 miles. Riders complete individual routes to earn tickets for the drawing for swag and prizes. To do all four routes in the allotted eight hours you will need to average 8.37 miles per hour, so start planning your strategy now!

This event is organized by volunteers from the SATN community and sponsored by ATX Bikes, Donut Taco Palace, Austin Sign Factory, Goodpop, Giant, SRAM, Shimano, and Santa Cruz.

The SATN SOCIAL’s purpose is to share the joy of The South Austin Trail Network. Not only the 130 miles of single track, but also the fantastic SATN community of mountain bikers!

Schedule

  • 8:00 AM: Ride begins; please be ready to roll at this time. Do Not start early!

  • 4:00 PM: Food, Brew, and prize drawing (sponsors announced soon).

There are multiple ways to do this event. Here are some examples:

  • Start at 8 am. Do as many as you can. Hang out for the rest of the day.

  • Start at 8 am with the intent of only doing one then going home to rest then come back at 3:30 for the festivities.

  • Start at 11 am to do two segments to finish up at 3:30-ish.

  • Start at 1:30, ride 17 miles, finish just before 4 pm, start enjoying the refreshments.

Come at any time during the day. If you are unsure how to follow the segments on Strava or Trailforks, look for someone that does, so you can follow them. Or if you know how to, declare in the parking lot something like, “I’m going to attempt the south and north at 9 mph average.” Gather a group and go!

Location

ATX Bikes

5701 W Slaughter Ln Suite A110, Austin, TX 78749

Please do not park behind Dominoes Pizza or in front of Austin Diagnostic Clinic!

There's lots of on street parking in the PARK PLACE subdivision that is off Beckett just north of Slaughter. Parking there is closer than parking in the Alamo Drafthouse's lot. Please respect the businesses in the shopping center and avoid parking between the stores and Slaughter. Leave them some spaces to do business.

Additional Info

This ride is self-supported, so bring plenty of water to store in your car. Sports drinks in an ice chest is a great idea. Food and nutrition for those in between segment rest stops is smart. Extra DRY gloves to switch out, sandals to rest feet at stops and wear after ride, tools and a pump for those mid ride adjustments. All good ideas.

There are four segments that are around 17 miles long. The fastest riders can do them in just over 1 ½ hours. The 8 am start will allow these strong riders to do all 67 miles. Do the math on how many segments you can complete. You can start any time after 8 AM, but you must be back by 4 pm to be eligible for the drawings. Know that being part of a big roll out is great fun. So that will happen at the 8 am start.

Earn a raffle ticket for each segment completed. Get a bonus ticket for completing all four. Get two additional tickets if you do all four perfectly. Proven by your Strava ride. This is as much an orienteering challenge as it is a riding one.
