Crank ‘N Drank
South Austin Trail Network
Every Tuesday - 6PM
Crank ‘N Drank is a South Austin Trail Network Tuesday evening tradition.
Wheels down at 6pm. This is considered an ADVANCED level ride, meaning the slowest group is not a beginner group. Crank N Drank is not reccommended for beginners. There is a BYOB chill out after the ride. Bring a cooler, your favorite brew, a chair, and some money for Dominoes, Tacodeli, or TCBY which are in the shopping center.
Remember, this is an advanced level ride. Generally the groups are:
Group 4/Social: 8-9 MPH with breaks
Group 3: 9 MPH with a few breaks
Group 2: 9-10 mph with very few breaks
Group 1: 10-11 mph with very few breaks
*There is a Race Pace group but I am going to get on my soapbox here as someone who cares about our community and the impression we leave: race pace has no business in mixed use public trail systems and it is a shame the organizers of this ride will not reign that in. Until that happens, I am leaving this up as my protest. There is a race pace group. I encourage you not to join it. Good for you and your athleticism and cornering skills. Keep it in private systems/one way trails.
Please be respectful of the riders behind you. IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO KEEP UP MOVE ASIDE AND LET THE GROUP THROUGH.
planned Route
Uploaded by noon the day of ride.
Route Notes
If trail conditions are poor, route will be gravel and road.
FIRST HALF: To start..."Front Door" but DO NOT turn into slalom...take the hike/bike gravel path toward MoPac and cross under MoPac where you ring the cowbell...then take the VCT trail up towards Slaughter Lane but take the pipeline single track the last 100 yards to the stoplight. Cross Slaughter and go around the NORTH side of the medical building and do "Bambi" w/ the little kicker at the end towards the apartment building driveway (called "Passion of Bambi"). Cross Davis Lane and stay along the eastside of MoPac, do "Over the Hump" then hang a right into "Nessies Hunting Ground/Jane Fonda," under Brodie and then "Train Robbers." Once on the north side of William Cannon, do "Boulder League'' (or the re-route around it), up "Pikachu," down "Poke Eye Man," then "Reproductive Cycle" to the apartment parking lot and out to the Brodie sidewalk.
SECOND HALF: From the Brodie sidewalk, turn right down Oakdale Drive and enter the Sunset Valley trails at the FIRST entrance through the field (after 3rd house on left). From there, cross Williams Creek and under Brodie Lane to "Tin Can Alley" over to "Velaro Loop" westbound. Cross William Cannon and take Brush Country down to VCT entrance to "Race to the Library" then "DickNick 2020 West." Do the little out and back in Latta Greenbelt and pop out onto the hike and bike trail back toward DicNick. Cross Beckett at the baseball diamond and enter the DicNic trails behind the pool along the south boundary of the baseball field. Exit DicNic behind the medical buildings on Davis, cross Davis and take "Rudolph" back up to Slaughter Lane. End with "Quarantine Cut Through" (take the new entrance off the pipeline line, not VCT trail), through the tunnel to "Alamo Swamp."
Meet behind ATX Bikes. Please do not park behind Domino’s Pizza, or in front of Austin Diagnostic Clinic!
